native of Tucker, Arkansas, Rev.
C. Vernon Mason is a graduate of Morehouse College,
holds a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) from Indiana
University, a Master of Divinity from New York Theological
Seminary and a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School. For
over twenty-three years, Rev Mason served as a civil rights
attorney. In addition, Rev. Mason has dedicated his life to
the progressive development of the educational needs of youth.
He has spearheaded numerous successful initiatives that have
led young people to educational pursuits and self-sufficiency.
A
former civil rights attorney, Rev. C. Vernon Mason currently
serves as Chief Executive Officer for the Uth Turn initiative.
From its inception, Rev. Mason has led Uth Turn into unparalleled
success, transforming the lives of over 1,500 hard to reach
youth. Uth Turn has a recidivism rate for incarceration of
17%. Uth Turn is being observed as a national model combining
the best of the community, school and organizations of faith.
In addition, Rev. Mason serves as a Visiting Professor of
Theology and Urban Ministry at New York Theological Seminary
-teaching various courses, i.e., Slavery and Reparation, The
Civil Rights Movement and Historical & Theological Perspectives.
Rev.
Mason is a member of the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church
where he has served on the Deacon Board since 1990, and on
the Board of Trustees from 1978-1988. For thirty-six years
he has been married to Mrs. Thelma Rollins-Mason, and from
this union they have three wonderful children -Kimara, Khalila
and C. Vernon, Jr.
